Patty Dempsey
Licensed Professional Counselor - In Training (LPC-IT) | MSE | NCC
For eight years, Patty worked as a middle school counselor helping adolescents and families navigate trauma and behavioral patterns that hindered their growth. She recognized that these patterns often led to conflict and isolation, prompting her to deepen her understanding of trauma, self-esteem, happiness, and flow. By creating a safe space, Patty encouraged students and families to explore the roots of their struggles and discover ways to regain energy.
During her time as a school counselor, Patty observed the most progress when individuals and families applied interventions together to improve their interactions and foster connections in the community. This collective approach to wellbeing inspired Patty to further her education so she could support clients on a deeper level, eventually leading her to pursue her education to become a licensed professional counselor.
“Be. Cause” is Patty’s Be. and describes her initial approach to client care. Helping clients understand what gives them energy or drains them is imperative to cultivating sustainable change. When we don’t understand why we do things, it can make it difficult to know how to do anything differently! When we can identify a “cause” we can better develop a roadmap and evoke growth.
Patty values everyone’s unique journey, and she helps clients create personalized paths to achieve their goals. She aims to provide holistic services that support clients fully. This process builds off her experience utilizing the Flowcess® model in the classroom. Backed by Positive Psychology Theory and person-centered theory, Patty combines compassionate strength and active listening to support clients in building hope and resilience to develop their strengths to flow. She is eager to collaborate with clients to determine their unique process for flow, in which a key component is guiding clients in understanding the interactions between their minds, brains, and bodies.
In her free time, Patty enjoys traveling, cooking, tennis, various personalized workout routines, and spending time with her family and friends. As an ordained pastor, she also enjoys conversations with those who want to consider how their faith and spirituality may interact with their mental, emotional, and physical journey.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor - In Training (LPC-IT), Patty is currently being supervised by Dr. Carey Sorenson, PhD, RYT-200, Executive Clinical Director as she works to fulfill Wisconsin requirements for full licensure.
